The self-portraits that comprise this series depict my interactions with objects that carry personal meaning to me. Although the particular significance of these items is private, the act of collecting and assigning significance to inanimate objects is a universal human act. These objects develop talismanic properties. They act as beacons that help each of us to navigate the wide expanse of existence, organizing it into a narrative, which gives our lives meaning. These works illustrate how I engage in that universal act, by using objects as symbols to construct my own personal mythology.
This section contains both the final pieces that comprise the series, as well as studies made in the process of creating these works.

I made these still-life/cityscape drawings to better understand my place in the world that I inhabit. These drawings depict spaces that are very personal to me: most are of the windows at my home, the one exception is of the window at my first studio. I use strong perspective cues to emphasize my own physical presence within the environment, and to bring you into that space with me. By overlapping nearby objects over distant vistas, and by shifting my vantage point, I gradually reveal information that exposes my true position within the chaos of the objects and the city that surround me.
